SteelPen Terms of Service

Plain-language terms for using SteelPen.

1) The service

SteelPen helps you capture source material, organize notes, and produce clearer written outputs from your own material. You remain responsible for your work product and for validating accuracy before sending or publishing.

• SteelPen is available through the web app, iPhone app, watch app, and Chrome extension where offered.
• Outputs are generated only by explicit user action.
• Features, settings, and limits may vary by plan, platform, and active service controls.

2) Your responsibilities

• You are responsible for reviewing outputs for accuracy and completeness.
• You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload any content you provide.
• You are responsible for how you use the service and its outputs (including compliance decisions).

SteelPen can improve structure and clarity. It cannot guarantee correctness of facts you didn’t provide.

3) Acceptable use

• No unlawful use.
• No attempts to compromise, probe, or disrupt the service.
• No uploading content you do not have the right to use.
• No use that violates others’ privacy or rights.

Accounts may be suspended for abuse or attempts to bypass controls.

4) Billing

Subscriptions may be managed via Stripe on the web and via Apple for iOS in-app purchases. Plan status is enforced server-side.

• Plans may be free or paid, and may be offered monthly or annual.
• Web billing management happens through the billing portal. App-based subscription management may happen through Apple.
• Plan changes become effective when reflected in your account status.
• Feature access, available goals, processing levels, lengths, context access, and similar controls may change with your plan.

If billing status doesn’t update immediately, refresh later—billing state is confirmed via webhooks.

5) Data and privacy

We collect and process data as described in our Privacy Policy. We encrypt user-authored content at rest at the application layer and do not train SteelPen itself on your content.

• Email is stored in plaintext for login and billing.
• User-authored content (notes + outputs) is encrypted at rest at the application layer.
• SteelPen may use server-side policy, curriculum, messaging, and rollout controls to determine available features, prompts, banners, offers, and experiments.
• Retention options: 6 hours / 1 day / 3 days.

6) Disclaimers

• Outputs may contain errors or omissions and may require edits.
• This service is not legal advice and not a compliance certification service.
• You should not treat outputs as authoritative without review and, where appropriate, professional guidance.

7) Changes to the service

We may update features, pricing, plans, controller-managed configuration, or policies over time. If changes materially affect these terms, we should provide notice through the product or website.
